Services for Women
The Services for Women team works with women across the UK, in all areas of science, engineering, the built
environment and technology (SET). This includes women:- just starting on SET studies at college or university
- looking for their first, second, third SET job...
- thinking about taking a break, but wanting to be sure they can return
- having time out, and hoping to get back into SET work
- wanting promotion and development
- entrepreneurs and women in small businesses
- taking on positions of leadership
- wanting to encourage and help other women in SET in a range of organisations, such as trade unions and schools.
With UKRC support, a mentor and lots of determination, Rajni Bhardwaj (right) returned to a career in science after a ten year break.
How can we help you?
Our Code of Practice outlines how we support women at all levels of their SET career and what we
expect in return.
Women returners
We work closely with women who have had a career break, offering one-to-one support and the opportunity to meet other returners. If you are looking to return to a career in SET, a good place to start is the
online returners' course we developed with the Open University - known as the T161. You can read more

Supporting women at all levels of SET
We also help women progress in their careers and take on leadership positions. We offer:
- mentoring opportunities
- free membership of GetSET Women, our online community of women across all levels of SET
- a range of bursaries
- career development training
- guidance on securing public appointments
- opportunities to raise your profile
- networking opportunities
- inspiration through our case studies and role models
- signposting to other organisations:
Anna Ferguson (left) successfully returned to a career in engineering as an electrical engineer
with NaREC (New and Renewable Energy Centre) after being awarded a technical training grant from the UKRC. "I am just embarking on my career with NaREC but already I am involved in exciting
projects and learning new and interesting technical skills. Over the coming months
and years I am looking forward to continuing to learn and applying the knowledge
to my role."
