Training for returners (T161)

The Open UniversityT161: Return to science, engineering and technology

A ten week short course with The Open University.

This course is for anyone who has previously worked in the fields of science, engineering and technology and who wants to return to work (employed or self employed). It will help you:
  • look at what you really want from work
  • evaluate your skills and experience
  • blow the dust off your CV
  • make new contacts and revive existing ones
  • find out who is offering the kind of work you want to do
  • achieve that all-important work-life balance
The course is part-time and online, allowing flexibility around your other commitments. It has been developed by the Open University with support from UKRC and funding from the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and ESF Equal. It has recently been nominated for an Opportunity Now Award in the Innovation category. Judging will take place on 11 March 2010 in London.

We are currently recruiting for the May 2010 course.

The UKRC is able to offer bursaries to women living in England, Scotland and Wales. The closing date for bursaries for the May 2010 course is 9th April 2010..

If you live in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland, WITS (Women in Technology & Science) is offering a limited number of bursaries for women studying the T161 course.

You can find out about more about the T161 course and book a place on the Open University website. The T161 is one of the featured courses of the Open University's Outsmart the Recession website.

Hilary Leevers (right) recently became Assistant Director at the Campaign for Science and Engineering. "No way would I have got this job ... without the things that were covered in the Open University course. It gave me the confidence to promote myself."
